Hocking added that they had been able to put together and design more 3D games than originally thought possible and that they have been able to keep their game’s quality extremely high. In addition, Hocking was asked to comment on whether or not the PlayStation Vita would be a good contender for 3D. A German PlayStation 3 hacker is expecting a jail sentence after running out of money to pay court costs. Click to view larger image Egorenkov was subsequently sued by Sony and forced to take all material relating to the hack down from his site, which has since been replaced by a donations page to help pay for a court battle with the platform holder. According to a well-placed industry source who wishes to remain anonymous, developers were recently notified that a new revision of the PlayStation 3 is in the testing process that will feature a new copy protection system not on the motherboard but inside the BD-ROM drive itself, similar to the Xbox 360. Presumably this would at least prevent these newer consoles from running copied games with an additional layer of authentication. It’s likely that there will be some kind of watermark on genuine PlayStation 3 discs that the drive is looking for. All of these measures are in response to the acquisition of the PS3 root encryption key earlier this year (2011) by hacker GeoHot which allows unlicensed code to be run on the PlayStation without restriction. This new hardware revision will be accompanied by a firmware upgrade that contains newly optimized Blu-ray playback drivers that can now handle BD-Java during Blu-ray 3D p ...posted on June 17, 2011, 3:37 AM by k33t4g

The console still has 'a whole range of possibilities' says SCEE chief Andrew House. SCE Europe president Andrew House has reaffirmed Sony's claim that the PlayStation 3 will have a "minimum" lifecycle of 10 years. "I've always said [the PS3's lifespan will be] ten-plus years and the only question mark is how long the 'plus' is," said House, speaking to CVG. "Ten years I think is the minimum." House also drew comparison with the PlayStation 2, which is still supported by publishers - albeit to a minor extent - to this day. "What we've said many times before and we're confident about is we launched a device that is very, very powerful, that has a whole range of possibilities and that's at the very least a ten-year life-cycle. I know I'm guilty of repeating myself but I think it's always worth pointing out we're still selling PlayStation 2 in its millions around the world, 11 years after it was launched. "That's different markets and a different profile of consumers ...posted on June 14, 2011, 7:20 PM by k33t4g

The main focus for Nintendo has been to promote the controller and how the company will once again change gaming. Console specifications can also be interesting though and many hoped the Wii U would outperform current-gen consoles. Though it's not been confirmed by Nintendo, an analyst from Sterne Agee may have proved the console is more powerful. Speaking to a number of different developers at E3, Arvind Bhatia revealed that some stated the console was 50% more powerful than the Playstation 3.
